love starts with a heartbeat

Yup, it’s official folks! Michael and I are expecting our first baby in July. We feel extremely blessed and are sooo excited!

Last Friday we had our first appointment with our OB doctor. As we walked into the doctor's office Michael squeezed my hand and whispered that he was nervous. Ironically, all Michael had to do was sit in a cushioned chair while I on the other hand had to pee in a cup (which always ends up being a messy situation), undress completely, have all sorts of uncomfortable tests and examinations performed, and explain in detail a plethora of personal facts.

The doctor then asked me to lie down and she pulled out a metal object that had a speaker-like-thing attached to it on one end and a stethoscope-like-thing to the other. She placed one end of the very cold stethoscope against my stomach and began moving it around. She explained to us that she was looking for a heartbeat. After a few moments of her searching I began to feel nervous - "What if there's not a baby in there after all?" "What if I have just been sick for the last 3 months with the flu?"

And then the searching stopped on the left side of my lower abdomen and Michael and I heard the sweetest sound - our baby's heartbeat! Our baby has a heartbeat! Our baby is growing and living inside of me! We felt a flood of emotions - gratitude, excitement, and most of all love.
